This ones a nice taste of what it was like skateboarding in South Carolina 10 years ago. They recently held a reunion-repremiere down in Charleston and it was a pretty damn good time. Plenty of "oohs" and "ahhhs" and of course plenty of laughs about clothing choices in the mid-2000s. So here it is...Dirtbags, a film by Jack Abbot and Cory Wilkinson. Featuring Ty Brown, JT Gleason, Aaron Green, Chris Jacobs, Bill Pardee, CJ Ulm, Dusty Yauilla and more.
At one point during this chilly Saturday in December I heard someone remark, "I don't know why we didn't just call it King of Sunset Park the first year." Well, the moniker stuck anyways but it might be for good reason. These people, all friends and equals, are no kings at all. The only gold they surround themselves with comes packaged as a liquid in aluminum cans and glass bottles. They sit upon their pool coping thrones and rule over the backyard. These people would out-skate any ruler and drink any monarch under the damn table, so kings be damned. SPOTR is more fun than ruling a country anyways and significantly less likely to result in assassination or a coup d'etat. If you missed out, you severely missed out, but click this photo below and see more.
This is an excellent film from Mike Hogan (Lowkey / Gang Wars) that showcases skateboard talent from various cities in Western NC and South Carolina. Featuring the likes of Justin Fyle, Jacob Atkisson, George Etheredge, Alex Dixon, Tre Greenlee, Justin Nixon, Mckenzie Goff, Travis Holder, Zack Cotton, Taylor Cook, Jerry Harris, Dusty Yauilla, James Patrick Heinz, John Glisson, Jack R. Cox, Pat Bucci, Will Marx, Aaron Green, CJ Ulm, William Mcfadden, Ty Brown and more. Watch parts 1 and 2 below.
Here's a nice full length video offering from BlueTile and Dorian Warneck (that's how you know it's good) out of Columbia, SC. Featuring Tripp Bartlett, Jon Chappell, Jeremy Davis, Aaron Falin, Chris Gardner, Aaron Green, John Hill, Jamie Hyatt, Chris Jacobs, Andrew Thomas, Nick Thompson, Dorian Warneck, Dusty Yauilla, and friends.
How did I miss this video growing up? This ones got an all-star NC cast and a helluva filmmaker behind the lens - John Evans aka Jevans. You know it's a mid-2000's NC video when there's FlexPay, eS accels, baggy jeans, big shirts, and bridge rail. From Winston-Salem to Wilmington and beyond, this is another one you might want to brush up on. Featuring : Trey Justice, Steve Fox, Chad Shooter, Jed Shooter, Cameron Keene, Sturgil Horn, Eric Reaves, Reuben Pickle, Daniel Roberts, Justin Brock, Drew Hanner, and more.
Another sick one out of NC by TKP. A mix of skateboarding (duh), art, and experimental video magazine style before everyone had phones attached to their hands and GoPros up their asses. Too many good things in here to name but highlights include a Wilmington section, Greenville section, plenty of NC State, and so on.
This right here is the opus. This is the video that put NC videos on the map. This is the video that made NC skateboarding relevant for my friends and I (and probably a bunch of other people). This one is fucking epic. A film by James Tupper (of Post22) and Travis Knapp-Prasek (of SkateNC) featuring parts from Scotty Moore, Jeremy Menard, Ty Rodhe, Brett Abramsky, Jed Shooter, Chad Shooter, Tyler Tufty, Dan Murphy, and the first full length part (that I know of) from Justin Brock. You're gonna wanna watch this one AND the bonus montage.
If you don't know about the Lost Bowl, that's too bad. This place is epic. This year they hosted a Halloween party. Ripping went down. Bands shredded ear drums. Beer was drank. A good time was had. Day time photos by Matt Miller and night photos by Tyler Brady.
