The long awaited video part/montage from Nick Bland - in case you missed the premiere and release party. Here it is.
It's me. Matt Miller. I write the posts, I pick what goes in the mag, I pick what goes on the site, I babysit the printer in case it wants to jam, I fold, I staple, I run the Insta and the Facebook and the site and the Twitter blah blah. So I forgot to reach out to a "photog" for March, so I'm just going to do it myself since I might as well toot my own god damn horn once in a while. I have that kind of power.
I've been photographing skateboarding since I was old enough to realize it would be cool to photograph skateboarding. Not only has it preserved memories of acid-dropping off my dad's F-150 in the driveway, but it has given me an outlet to show "the rest of the world" that me and my best friends are having a fucking blast. This photo essay is no exception. As I age into my late 20's I skate street a lot less and yards a lot more. The DIY yard scene is strong right now. You don't get busted, you don't have to drive from spot to spot because one dude in the car doesn't want to skate it...man yards are where it's at. Wilmington home-grown DIY is fantastic and the people of Sunset Park (and beyond) are really doing it. Who wants to wait around for the city or the county to build something that's going to be crowded with skooter kids and agro dads? As much as I love to see EVERYONE having a good time, it's nice to have the isolation and privacy that your very own DIY permits. I am lucky to call these people my friends and family that have welcomed me into their world. Here is a look into my first visit to a new place with my good friends.
